Velvet Concrete is a residential interior located in Zabłocie — a post-industrial district of Kraków undergoing rapid transformation. The project reinterprets the industrial legacy of the area through spatial clarity and rigorous material logic, rather than through literal references.

The client sought a contemporary apartment offering openness, functional clarity, and a refined atmosphere, while maintaining a strong material identity rooted in the character of the place.

THE IDEA
THE IDEA

Velvet Concrete explores the transformation of industrial materiality into a calm, tactile living environment. The project is founded on the idea of redefining concrete — from a symbol of weight and rawness into a medium of softness, light, and emotional restraint.

Velvet Concrete explores the transformation of industrial materiality into a calm and tactile living environment. Rather than referencing industrial aesthetics directly, the project distills their essence — material honesty, precision, and restraint — and reinterprets them through light, proportion, and texture.

Concept +
Design Principles

Concrete-like mineral plaster forms a continuous architectural envelope, wrapping ceilings and walls in a soft, monolithic surface that absorbs and diffuses light. This treatment transforms perceived weight into atmosphere and spatial calm. Graphite built-in elements introduce structure and rhythm, anchoring the interior while remaining visually discreet.

Interior +
Atmosphere

Soft textiles, curved glass partitions, and warm brass accents counterbalance the mineral base, introducing intimacy and sensuality without decorative excess. Transparency and reflection blur boundaries between zones, allowing light to shape depth and hierarchy.

The interior defined by material discipline and emotional restraint — where concrete becomes quiet, tactile, and profoundly human.

The project was fully realized by Eklekt Atelier under a comprehensive design-and-build model. Full responsibility for the process — from concept development through execution — was assumed by the studio, allowing the client to benefit entirely from the role of a substitute investor.

Under Construction +
Behind the Schenes

The scope included the complete realization of the interior, as well as the terrace and winter garden, conceived as an extension of the living space. Close supervision, material control, and coordination of all disciplines ensured faithful implementation of the design intent and a high level of craftsmanship throughout the project.

Realization +
Final Effect

Velvet Concrete transforms industrial heritage into a mature expression of domestic comfort.

Quietly luxurious and guided by light rather than decoration, the interior offers depth, calm, and tactile richness.
