Architecture, Gardens

Located in Zawada, the project reinterprets the relationship between architecture and landscape through a composition of terraces embedded into the natural slope of the site. The house appears as a calm, monumental form that opens toward distant views while remaining anchored in the terrain through stone retaining walls and layered garden structures. Horizontal rooflines and deep overhangs define the architectural language, while pergolas, terraces, and sculpted greenery extend the living space into the surrounding landscape.

The client sought a residence where architecture and garden would form a coherent spatial composition, creating a calm living environment while emphasizing openness toward the surrounding landscape.

THE IDEA
THE IDEA

The concept is based on transforming the natural slope of the site into a sequence of inhabitable terraces. Architecture and landscape are treated as one spatial structure where stone retaining walls, garden platforms, and vegetation organize the terrain and guide movement through the site.

The concept is based on transforming the natural slope of the site into a sequence of inhabitable terraces. Architecture and landscape are treated as one spatial structure where stone retaining walls, garden platforms, and vegetation organize the terrain and guide movement through the site.

The design organizes the garden as a sequence of outdoor rooms connected through terraces and pathways. Stone elements shape the terrain, while lightweight pergolas introduce rhythm and shade. The composition balances strong architectural geometry with organic planting, allowing the landscape to soften the monumental character of the house.

Materiality and planting define the atmosphere of the garden. Natural stone, warm wood, and ornamental grasses create a calm environment that changes with light and seasons. The terraces gradually descend toward the open landscape, framing views and creating intimate spaces for rest and contemplation.

Zawada Terraces transforms the sloping terrain into a layered landscape architecture where the house and garden operate as one spatial system. Monumental yet calm, the project reflects Eklekt Atelier’s philosophy of architecture shaped by landscape, proportion, and light.
